2/4/2022 1236pm is the moment my life changed forever. I got a phone call from my Aunt. When I saw her name on my caller ID my heart stopped for a second. But i reassured myself that she was just giving me an update.
But my gut knew the truth. My aunt spoke the 5 words that broke me “Hey Honey Your dad died” I was hoping I heard her wrong. But I was not wrong I heard her right.
My dad had been in the hospital about 5 days for what seemed like a standard admission. He fell had a bruised backside. It was discovered that he had pneumonia. So he was getting that stabilized and then he would go to rehab for a little bit and then go home.
He had some confusion that we were concerned about. Found out on February 3rd he had a UTI so it made sense about the confusion. By the time they found the UTI anitbiotics were not working. The infection took over his body and he died of sepsis.
That was hard to hear. At the same time it was comforting to find out that he really did not suffer. I would have rather him go silently and quickly than to have a prolonged death. So I am glad he did not suffer.
