The Oprah Show that he was on the whole audience was filled with male sexual trauma survivors. At one point all the men stood up and were holding a picture of themselves at the age of when their trauma happens. That hit me so hard. It was so powerful to see so many men be strong and courageous. Not only was there a voice for male sexual trauma survivors there was a roar. Those men were so strong to stand up and talk about what happened to them.
Tyler Perry was on Oprahs Master Class. Here are some things he said that I thought was powerful
- Finding the strength to stand in front of your pain.
- It does not define me I gained wisdom courage strength once I was able to stand in front of it
- a child of never. it is important to not be bitter
- I sit in a seat of gratitude
- Bitter is like acid destroying hope
- Bitterness would do more harm to the host than all those that hurt me
- Forgiving is for you, not the others it releases you from the abusers
- Forgiveness is letting go of how it made you feel consequences. it takes the power out of it. you are left with the scars but you are left open for what will come from the healin
- Talking about his relationship with his abusive dad now. “He has what is easy i have provided food and shelter. he is missing what i did not get a relationship”
- Make it the fuel when someone says you can’t you say “let me show you”
- i don’t believe in failure. everything is used
- Even if you have 2 critics. still, speak your story
- the purpose speaks to someone
- faith family forgiveness
- Talking about his son “I want him to have enough pain to be a great human but not enough to give up”
- he is my healer he heals me every time i hug him.
- the ashes from his childhood allowed him to rebuild himself
- I want to be a place inspiration for those around me
- humble enough to be flawed, strong enough that my mom would be proud
I truly believe one survivor can make a ripple effect that turns into a wave. Much Love Take Care.
