A few years ago in a support group for sexual trauma survivors, my therapist was telling me about a documentary that was coming out called “The Invisible War” It was about women who had suffered Military Sexual Traumas (MST) and they were now sharing their stories.
A few of the women were talking about going to see the movie. I was not sure if I wanted to see it or not. As the time got closer to the film premiering I decided to go ahead and see the movie. The movie was making its way across the country debuting for free at different locations.
I saw the movie with another woman in my MST group. I was still apprehensive as the lights dimmed in the theater. I was wondering if it would be “hollywooded” Would they glam it up to get more attention
As the film started playing I got my answer pretty quickly. It was not hollywooded or glammed up. It was raw and it was real. It was such a powerful movie. For the first time. I began to hear the voice that I longed to hear. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. WE SHALL BE UNITED AS ONE.
I was so glad I decided to see the movie. It was so powerful and still reminds me that I am not alone.
