About 10 years ago I read the book “The Glass Castle” I LOVED IT. It is still one of my favorite books. I appreciated Jeanette’s rawness about her childhood. It is such a powerful story. I am inspired by the way she draws in the audience by starting the story with her in a cab in NYC and seeing her parent’s dumpster diving. That is when she goes back in time and begins the story of her life. I was so inspired by this approach that I have always thought about starting my life story and a poignant point and then going back to the beginning of my life.
I enjoy the way Jeanette talks about her life story so matter of a factly. There are so many details that are powerful yet painful to read about. That honestly is what makes me admire her openness. Her story also gave me hope. Even though she had a rough childhood, she pulled herself out of it and has become a successful career woman.
I have always held onto her story. So when I found out that her story was being turned into a movie I was SUPER EXCITED!!! I went to see the movie on opening night. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THE MOVIE. It really gave me more of a visual of what her life was. Putting her writings into action. It was so powerful. I really appreciated that at the end of the movie there was real footage of her family. Not thinking she lied or exaggerated her life. But to see the rawness of her family gave a deeper description of who they really are that an actor could not do.
I left the theater more inspired by this story. It was so powerful. It put my life into more perspective for me. It makes me hopeful of what my future holds for me. I am so excited to explore it and see where this journey takes me. Take Care Much Love.
