A few years I was doing a speech at a Sexual Trauma Awareness event. I had mentioned that it was my dream for Sexual Trauma Awareness to no longer be silent. I mentioned that about 20 years ago Breast Cancer was a silent epidemic. It was whispered in the dark corners of rooms “Suzy has breast cancer”
Breast Cancer was such a private thing. Not many people talked about it. But now there is a whole month to make awareness. Rallies, marches, and events are something you see everywhere nowadays.
That is my dream for Sexual Trauma. That we will lock arms and raise our voice. We will no longer be silent. I totally understand that someone coming forward about being a survivor of sexual trauma can be hard and humiliating for some people.
I mentioned before that I also envision the scene in “Bug’s Life” where the grasshoppers are bullying the ants for food. One of the ants steps forward to say they are not going to allow the grasshoppers to be bullies. Then one by one more ant step forward and say the same thing. Sone there are thousands of ants stepping forward and the grasshoppers give up.
This is what I think about when it comes to no remaining quiet. One by one we unite and support each other. Like I said I have dreamed and prayed about this for so long. Never sure if it would ever happen.
Well, let me just say “WE ARE QUIET NO MORE!!!” With all these women coming forward in Hollywood, music industry, news organization. Sexual Trauma is getting its voice. It brings tears to my eyes and to my throat.
To hear that Hollywood has a website Times Up Now is so powerful. There were so many people that wore black to be unified with the cause at the Golden Globes. I really hope and pray that this is just a short-lived shout. Instead, I hope that it will be a very long winded rebellious stand.
I look forward to Sexual Trauma Awareness Month in April 2018 just to see if people will hopefully still be united. We have to be Silent No More.
Take Care. Much Love
