Second Place

I remember last year when Chicago Cubs were in the World Series I was on pins and needles.  I wanted them to win.  My dad is a HUGE Cubbie Fan.  So I wanted it for him.  They won and I was super excited.  As soon as the game was over you did not hear anything else about the Cleveland Indians.  It’s like they snuck out the back door.  Why is that?  In life, especially in sports, there is great attention put on competition and striving for 1st place.  Which can be a great goal.

No one ever strives for 2nd place or runner up.  Don’t get me wrong there are people that are grateful for “being nominated”.  But no one ever says “I am striving for 2nd place’  Because we want to give it everything we have.  To make every effort.  To leave it all on the field.

So we have this mindset in life.  But why do we struggle to have this mindset when it comes to our relationship with GOD.  We give our life our best and we give GOD the scraps, whatever is left over.

God calls us to make every effort.  To leave it all on the field for him.  He wants our best not whatever we have left over

I am not just saying this to everyone but me.  Actually, I say this especially to me.  When was the last time I turned off all the noise of the world (tv, computer, phone etc) and just spent time with GOD?

I have really tried to change my mindset about this.  GOD wants the best for us, so we need to give him our best

To GOD be the GLORY

2 Peter 1:5-8New International Version (NIV)

For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
