After my first TV interview, I told the reporter to feel free to use my phone number if she had any other story that she might want to interview me for. About 3 months later I received a phone call from one of her colleagues asking for me to do an interview about domestic violence.
She explained that a NFL player Ray Rice who had been seen on video slapping his then-girlfriend in an elevator. He was being acquitted of charges so the reporter Latasha Williams wanted to get my opinion about. I told her that I was willing to do the interview. So we set it up to meet at a park that afternoon.
But what was crazy about this timing was Dennis was currently in jail for domestic violence charges against his girlfriend. I knew this was more than coincidence. I knew that GOD was helping me to heal by talking about this subject as Dennis had an open case.
I was very careful in the story not to mention any current events. I made sure to not make mention of his location or the fact that he lives in the area. But to be honest, the whole time I was talking to her I was repeating in my head “OMG am I really doing a story about DV as he is in jail currently crazy”
This interview was very validating to me that Domestic Violence is not the victim’s fault. They are not to blame for the aggressor’s behavior. For a very long time, I had dismissed Dennis anger for the fact that we were just not compatible. But once I received a phone call from his girlfriend asking me questions about his anger I realized that it had nothing to do with me. It was his anger and something he needed to work on. I could not and would not take ownership of his anger or the domestic violence.
Take Care. Much Love
