I was able to reconnect with BG at the end of my tour in Korea. We talked almost daily during that time from. It was so good to just talk to him. He was stationed at Ft Sam Houston Tx. Right after I got to Ft Riley, KS BG went to a military school. I was unable to talk to him for about 30 days. He graduated from his military school on a Thursday. We talked that night and he said “Don’t be surprised if I show up on your doorstep tomorrow” I did not take it seriously.
The next day I got off work and got a phone call from BG. He says “I am at the Kansas CIty Airport come pick me up” I was in disbelief that anyone would travel that far to see me. I jumped in the car and headed 2 hours to pick him up. We had an AMAZING weekend just spending time together.
That weekend we spent together was the first of many. Every other weekend I either flew to San Antonio or he flew to Junction City. About 2 months after that first weekend together BG got orders to go to Korea for a year. We decided to get married. We had talked about it for the future so we decided to do it before he went to Korea.
I flew down to San Antonio and we were married April 5, 1991. I was so excited and happy to marry BG. I felt so safe with him. I truly believed he would protect me no matter what. BG left for his tour in Korea in August 1991. For the next year we wrote to each other every day (this was before email/text so snail-mail was the only way to communicate)
We spent most of our first year in 2 different places. But we made it work. I feel we learned more about each other in those letters than we could have if we were in the same room. For us it was not the time apart we struggled with. It was harder for us to be living together. That struggle would continue through out our 4 years of marriage. Take Care Much Love
