Forgiveness Letter-Aviation Soldier

Dear Aviation Soldier,

I have such a hard time thinking about writing you this letter each year.  The reason I have such a hard time is that I feel like you betrayed me.  You gained my trust and then you squashed my trust in everyone in the blink of an eye.  It is so difficult for me to establish trust in other people.

I was broken for so many years from what happened that October night in 1990.  I blamed myself for walking in that room, for accepting alcohol, for not reporting it.  But I finally had to not take ownership of any of that.

You, on the other hand, you are guilty of a lot of things.  For betraying me, for not protecting me from your buddies, not ensuring my safety.

For so many years I have been so mad at you.  But I have to let go of that bitterness and rage.    Ultimately I forgive you.  I still have anger and frustration.  I will continue to work on that.

I forgive you

Dana
