On my 13th birthday my dad took me to the NCO club for lunch to celebrate. It was a buffet. So I piled my plate full of everything they had.
After we were done with our lunch my dad went up and got 2 pieces of watermelon. He sat them on the table and then proceeded to tell me that he was going to teach me the proper way to eat a piece of watermelon.
For the next few minutes he showed me how to take a spoon and scoop some watermelon and put it on the spoon to eat.
The part that was so important was the spitting of the seeds. He showed me to put the spoon up to my lips and then gently spit the seed in the spoon and then dump the seed on the table.
That memory is one that I hold near and dear. I have not used the proper watermelon technique. But I have it in my back pocket if I ever need it. And I have my daddy to thank.
