Don’t tell me who you are show me

I think in today’s society we have a habit of defining ourselves by our job, title, education, achievements etc.  You go to the doctor and every license is up on the wall.  Don’t get me wrong I think if you accomplished it, show it off.  But at the same time, we can not allow these things to define us.

About 6 months ago there was a man that I encountered at work. The moment we made eye contact he started telling me about his accomplishments: he owned a house in Colorado, Florida and here.  He has driven an Indy Car.  He was some type of “Hollywood” big wig (screenwriter or something)  All these things were impressive, yet they did not impress me because I felt like this man had to tell me who he was.  Instead of allowing me to get to know him for who he is, he felt the need to bark off his resume at me.

For me, I would rather get to know someone and over time allow the onion to unpeel and learn about the person.  Actions speak louder than words.  You can have every degree under the sun but if you treat people like dirt than those degrees do not mean very much.  We need more loving & caring people.  And fewer people made up of accomplishments.

Take Care.  Much Love
