I appreciate my daughters so much. If they find something on social media or in the news that has something to do with Sexual Trauma they will give me a warning about it so that I am not caught off guard.
The other day Lilie tagged me in a video that she thought was funny. She immediately sent me a text telling me not to watch it because she had tagged me in it before watching it completely. She wanted to protect me from possible triggers.
I appreciated that she wanted to protect me. But curiosity killed the cat. I really wanted to watch the video just to see what the content was. The video really did not cause me triggers. It really made me get angry that someone would think that this situation was funny enough to do a video with such vulgar language and the use of the word rape in loose terms.
I struggled with posting the video because I do not want to glamorize or promote such disrespect and filth. Yet I also want to educate others on how media and society have desensitized rape and it is just a word.
If you choose to watch the video please know there is strong language and vulgar description.
Video in a nutshell: This video is basically a Marine who did a “parody” MTV Cribs video about living in run down military barracks. The idea of it could be funny. Making fun of the conditions that military personnel lives in. I feel like he crossed the line when he is showing the shower area and states “this is where guys get raped” THAT IS NOT FUNNY”
Taking the true meaning out of the word for a few chuckle is not right. I feel like the military has made progress with taking a stand against Sexual Assault. But when I see this video it reminds me that some people do not take it seriously or respect it. I am repulsed by this guys behavior.
On the video, people were commenting hoping this video would go viral. I don’t support that. I do hope it causes an uproar. Gets people talking about how negative it is. I hope it gets some backlash and he thinks twice about keeping it up and being so vulgar.
If you don’t want to actually watch the video here are some of the vulgar words he says
“Here in the shower. Perfect place to get raped”
“In 2017 with the openness and acceptance you can get raped anywhere”
Pointing to the mops & brooms: “Look at all the things you can put in an orifice.”
Please watch this video with caution.
