About 2 months ago I was hanging out with my grandson. I saw that my phone was ringing but I did not recognize the phone number, so I let it go to voicemail. They left me a voicemail. I listened to it. It was a person from the Rape Crisis Center that I volunteer for. She had been contacted by a tv station to interview a survivor. So I called the Crisis Center back and told them I was interested. She gave me the phone number of the reporter.
I called the reporter on the way home. I was unsure when she wanted to do the interview. She explained that she was doing a story about Women Victims of Crime and how they deal with the healing process. She explained that she was interviewing women in a self-defense class and also a survivor.
I held my breath waiting to hear when she wanted to do the interview. She said that she was doing another interview in 3 weeks with the Self-Defense Class again so she wanted to wait to see if that would work for me. I told her that would be fine. We scheduled the appointment and then it was time to just wait until that date.
Right before the scheduled appointment my grandma had a heart attack and was in the hospital. This situation reminded me of when I had done my domestic violence interview and Dennis was in jail. My grandma is in the hospital brought up the chance of me seeing Wilber at the hospital and how my family has not believed me. I did my best to not bring that into the interview.
Lauren Clark and her cameraman got to my apartment and we just chatted while he sat up. She mentioned that she had looked at my blog. I was so encouraged to know that she had “done her homework” Lauren was awesome. She made me feel so relaxed. She was so prepared. She would ask one question and listen extensively to the answer and prepare for the next question.
The interview ended and I felt so at peace. Since I felt so comfortable with Lauren I really did not have that “regret” feeling that she might have pushed me to say something I did not want to, or even that I might not have communicated well or whatever.
Lauren explained that the story would be airing near the end of February. The story aired February 26th.
