I have shared before that I envision Sexual Trauma Awareness to be something that we talk about. We should not be ashamed. It is something that happened to us, it is not what defines who we are.
Thirty years ago breast cancer was such a silent cause. You would whisper if you knew someone that had it. But fast forward to now Breast Cancer is not in the darkness anymore. There is a month set aside. There are rallies and marches to make awareness and to raise money to find a cure.
I have a vision that the same awareness will happen about Sexual Trauma Awareness. That we will begin to have a voice. And that has begun to happen. As multiple women have come forward to speak about what happened to them and well know men such as Bill Cosby, Harvey Weinstein, Charlie Rose & Matt Lauer to mention a few.
I believe we are in a new era where women and men are beginning to stand up and use their voice. To let the world know what happened to them. We &have had quite a few movements that have begun #MeToo & Time’s Up, are 2 that have had strong voices and acknowledgment.
At a few of the awards shows there were movements of wearing black as a movement of “blackout show” That was very powerful. It gave me hope that we are moving forward, not backward or even standing still.
Now, of course, you will always have another side to a movement. I have heard that #metoo is forcing women to come forward when they don’t want to. I do not agree with that. There are many women that are standing in the limelight and still proud of those that do come forward. It is a personal decision. I see it as an option and not mandatory.
I have heard that these movements have political connection or motives. I don’t know if that is true. For me, I stay focused on the fact that a voice is being heard. And that gives me chills.
My heart flutters to imagine what the future has for Sexual Trauma Awareness. I continue to envision setting the world on fire with our light and with teal ribbons. Take Care. Much Love
